Highlights

Partnership Meeting
The CLEAR Anglophone Africa Center held its first official partnership meeting in November, 2011. The meeting was attended by the heads of Wits, the KIA and GIMPA, as well as the staff involved in CLEAR, from the three institutions. The objective of the meeting was to strengthen and deepen the strategic relationships between the partners and to understand each other’s core values and strategic position in region. During the meeting, the group made decisions around the overarching governance arrangements for the partnerships, and discussed broad agreements around financial and operational management. As a follow-up to this meeting a document is being prepared for the CLEAR Global Forum conference which will take place in Accra in January 2012.

Technical Assistance to South African Presidency
The Center is providing technical assistance for the Department of Performance Monitoring and Evaluation (DPME) at the South African Presidency in four key processes. First, they are contributing to the evaluation policy framework for the country. Secondly, they are organizing a research and learning workshop -in partnership with GTZ- related to diagnostics on country M&E systems in seven African countries. Thirdly, a training process to develop “champions” will be conducted, focusing on the basics of results-based management, institutional readiness assessments for M&E, and on managing evaluations. Finally, CLEAR is assisting in the development of a high-level three year plan for DPME, including the development of an overall results framework and indicators for the evaluation program.
