COVID - 19 Update
We recognize that with the evolving COVID-19 situation around the world, event organizers are apprehensive to host in-person events during gLOCAL Evaluation Week in June 2020. We share your concerns and recognize that this is an unpredictable time during which public health and safety are our top priorities.
Organizers that are concerned with social distancing recommendations, but are still interested in participating in gLOCAL, are encouraged to host online events. For in-person events, we encourage organizers to observe recommendations from their local authorities with respect to social gatherings, and we recommend enabling virtual connectivity so that at-risk individuals can also participate in gLOCAL Evaluation Week. In the next few days, we will be sharing information on online tools and platforms that can help you deliver successful virtual events.
We maintain our commitment to support the exchange of M&E knowledge and experiences as a means to promote evaluation capacity development, support evidence-based decision making, and strengthen development outcomes at local and global levels. We will continue to pursue these goals while adapting our strategy to the current situation.
Join the global effort to promote monitoring and evaluation!
With the ten-year countdown to the Sustainable Development Goals underway, systems to evaluate the impact of policies and monitor their progress are more important than ever. To sustain the momentum of global efforts to promote monitoring and evaluation capacity the CLEAR Initiative will convene the second annual gLOCAL Evaluation Week from June 1nd to 5th of this year.
gLOCAL Evaluation Week 2020 will feature a series of events around the world organized by local public, private, and academic institutions and organizations that produce, use, or promote evaluations to strengthen development programs. In addition to the traditional thematic areas such as Evaluation Capacity Development, Evaluation Communication and Use, and Evaluation Methods, the special theme, ‘Evaluation 2030’, intends to encourage discussions about the role of M&E in supporting the achievement of long-term development goals such as the 2030 Development Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals.
I was encouraged by the strong contributions from partners around the world to the gLOCAL Evaluation Week in 2019. This year marks the ten-year countdown to achieving the SDG targets. The role of monitoring and evaluation will be critical to ensure we stay on track, learn from experience, and achieve better outcomes. We hope for continued support from all partners to make gLOCAL Evaluation Week 2020 an even greater success than last year, said Sophie Sirtaine, Director of Strategy and Operations, Independent Evaluation Group of the World Bank Group, and CEO of the CLEAR Initiative.
There are several ways to support gLOCAL Evaluation Week:
- Organize an M&E knowledge-sharing or networking event between June 1 and 5, 2020. Go to the gLOCAL Evaluation Week to submit an event proposal;
- Promote gLOCAL Evaluation Week through your networks and channels. More information is available at the gLOCAL Evaluation Week; and
- Encourage everyone to participate in gLOCAL Evaluation Week events. Go to gLOCAL Evaluation Week to see the 2020 Calendar of Events.
Events can focus on Evaluation Capacity Development, Evaluation Communication and Use, Evaluation Methods, Evaluation 2030, or another topic relevant to monitoring and evaluation practices, capacities, and results. A wide variety of formats are welcome, including presentations, panel discussions, roundtable discussions, skill-building workshops, virtual events, and more.
177 institutions around the world supported the 2019 inaugural gLOCAL Evaluation Week during which over 270 events were organized in 38 countries. An estimated 22,000 participants convened to learn and share M&E knowledge.
